What a grueling 2 1/2 hours

If you are a soccer fan then of course you know what 2 1/2 hours I'm speaking of. The women's USA soccer team beat Brazil to win the gold medal in overtime. What a game! It was an extremely physical match-- with, I believe, 23 fouls, and many of them worthy of cards that were not given. Jason is always amazed at me when I watch soccer. For no other sport am I screaming at the tv, moaning and groaning, cussing, than when I am watching women's soccer. It was such a shame the US Men's Team did not qualify.

Soccer is in my blood. I played indoor and outdoor for 11 years, was a referee in high school, sat on the sidelines of my sister's and my brother's numerous tournaments and indoor and outdoor games. There is nothing like the rush of watching an excellent game. And today's game was one of them-- it was a wonderful, fast-paced, well-matched game. When we went on vacation in 1999 we saw one of the semifinal Women's World Cup games played in California. It's amazing to think that the same players I watched with my own eyes are still on the US team. It is sad, however, to see at least 3 of them retire-- Fowdy, Hamm and Fawcett. I found NBC's coverage before the game touching, and it brought tears to my eyes. Hopeless sap am I? Yep. Jason says it all the time.
